The Scottish Government has confirmed today that the reported number of deaths from Coronavirus has so far been underestimated by 40.

The First Minister confirmed the increase at her daily press briefing, as she outlined changes in how deaths will be reported from now on.

According to the Scottish Government, the total number of people who have died due to Coronavirus in Scotland so far is 126.

It follows concerns raised by GPs and Scottish Labour that deaths outside hospitals and ‘presumed deaths’ were not being counted.

Scottish Labour Health Spokesperson Monica Lennon has welcomed the clarification and the announcement that the reported figures from now on will include National Records for Scotland information which counts all presumed and confirmed COVID-19 deaths regardless of whether people die in a hospital, at home or other community setting.
