Commenting after the Prime Minister's latest defeat in the Commons, Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland, Lesley Laird MP, said:

"Over the past 24 hours, MPs from all political parties have sent a clear message to Boris Johnson that no deal is utterly unacceptable and that an extension to the Article 50 process will be required if no deal is reached with the EU by middle of October.

"Once again, no Scottish Conservatives had the gumption to put the national interest first and voted against the Bill. That is not something that the Scottish public will forget when it comes to a General Election.

“We must now redouble our efforts to ensure that the Bill makes its way through the Lords and that the legislation receives Royal Assent. Labour’s focus is to ensure that no deal has been legally ruled out and Boris Johnson and his reckless crew don’t get to trash our economy and our communities.”
