Commenting on reports that the number of people in Scotland affected by the two child cap has doubled in the past year, Scottish Labour Social Security spokesperson Mark Griffin MSP said:
“This rapid increase in the number of Scottish families affected by the cap underlines just how shameful this abhorrent Tory policy really is.
“Thousands more are set to be affected in the years to come and it must be scrapped immediately.
“Scotland could effectively end the cap, scrap the rape clause and do what we can to reverse the devastating effects of this callous policy.
“Instead, ministers are refusing to do so, despite the Scottish Parliament taking action on the bedroom tax and housing benefit cuts.
“It’s shameful.
"SNP Ministers should stop playing politics and use the powers they have to protect people."
