Commenting on the launch of a campaign to stop serving cancer-risk processed meats in Scotland’s schools and hospitals, Scottish Labour Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport, Monica Lennon, said:

“Removing nitro-meats from our dinner plates should be a top public health priority and Scottish Labour is pleased that all the other opposition parties now agree the Scottish Government must act.”

“There is clear and strong scientific evidence of the link between the consumption of processed meats containing nitrites and the development of harmful health conditions like bowel cancer.”

“There is no reason why, knowing the risks, that these types of processed meats should continue to served up in our hospitals and schools.”
