Scottish Labour has forced the SNP to commit to fully implementing a Minimum Student Income.

Parliament backed Labour’s motion calling on the government to implement the policy, which was the key recommendation of the independent review into student support published in 2017.

The SNP must not drag out the implementation of this much-needed policy any longer.

Scottish Labour’s Education spokesperson, Iain Gray MSP, said: “Financial support for students at university and college has been overlooked for too long in the political debate – today Scottish Labour has changed that.

“Labour supports free tuition, but students must have the financial support necessary when they actually get to college and university.

“The SNP must not dither and delay any longer. Plans to implement a Minimum StudentIncome must be brought forward as soon as possible to Parliament.

“Labour will continue to keep the pressure on the SNP until they fully implement a MinimumStudent Income that ensures our education system works for the many, not the few.”
