Responding to figures showing that 21.9 per cent of people waiting for a key clinical test at the end of 2018 had been waiting more than the target six weeks, Scottish Labour Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport Monica Lennon said:

“Too many people are waiting too long for potentially life-saving tests. That is unacceptable.

“Early intervention saves lives. These standards are in place to ensure that people with potentially serious conditions get the benefit of early detection and have the best possible chance of a full recovery.

“Instead, the SNP government is presiding over growing waiting lists for patients and growing pressures on our NHS staff.”
