New figures released just revealed that Scotland’s finances face a shortfall of over £200 million by 2021.

Tax revenues were almost £1 billion less than expected for 2017/18, leading to a shortfall in Scotland’s future finances – totalling over £200 million by 2021 as it stands.

Scottish Labour has warned that the shortfall must be urgently addressed to stop further cuts to public services.

Scottish Labour Finance Spokesperson James Kelly MSP said:

“A shortfall of hundreds of millions of pounds in the Scottish budget means more cuts to public services.

“Derek Mackay needs to urgently spell out how he will use the powers of the Scottish Parliament to plug this gap.

“This worrying shortfall reveals why the Scottish economy needs investment and a plan for growth – not more of the uncertainty offered by the constitutional obsession of the Tories and the SNP.

“Only Labour has a credible plan to grow the Scottish economy, close the tax gap and tackle poverty with our radical policies to boost wages and invest in public services.”
