Leaked Treasury documents warn that the integrity of the UK will be “undermined” as a result of the Conservatives’ Brexit plan.

A fifteen-slide PowerPoint presentation, used by Treasury civil servants in internal briefings but unveiled by Jeremy Corbyn this morning, reveals plans to implement customs declarations and security checks between Northern Ireland and Great Britain.

Mr Corbyn said the document “drives a coach and horses through Boris Johnson’s claim that there will be no border in the Irish Sea”.

The document, titled NI Protocol: Unfettered access to the UKIM, includes a series of chilling warnings.

In a section headed “constitutional effects”, it states: “NI symbolically separated from the Union/economic union undermined.”

It says it would also lead to a “precedent set for differential treatment for a constituent part of the UK”.

The document also warns that “comparatively low-value trade disruption may have a more significant effect on local economies in Scotland and Wales”.

Scottish Labour leader Richard Leonard said: “If anyone was in any doubt that Boris Johnson is the biggest threat to the UK’s future, the proof is now there for all to see.

“You can’t trust a word Boris Johnson says. For all his talk of protecting the union, he is prepared to see it broken up for the sake of pushing through a hard-right Brexit plan.

“Labour is the only party standing in this election that can and will give the people the final say on Brexit.

“A UK Labour government, investing £100 billion in Scotland’s economy and public services and empowering every workplace and community, will also be the best argument against separation.”
