Commenting on revelations by the BBC that the Sick Kids hospital still had thousands of snagging problems after NHS Lothian accepted it as ready, Scottish Labour’s health spokesperson Monica Lennon said:

“Staff, patients and their families will rightly be furious at this revelation that there thousands of snagging issues with the new hospital, after the health board had accepted it from the contractor.

“Questions must be answered over why it took so long for the Health Secretary to step in despite glaring red flags and warning signs that the building was not fit for purpose months before it was due to open.

“This disaster has cost taxpayers millions and caused unnecessary stress to Scotland’s sickest children, their families and hospital staff – the public inquiry that Scottish Labour successfully campaigned for must get to the bottom of this mess.”
